It wasn't until five years after getting together that they finally settled on the name Lynyrd Skynyrd though, after their former P.E. Teacher Leonard Skinner who penalized guitarist Gary Rossington for his long hair because it was against the high school's policy. The second part of his career began with a lead role in the British rowing film True Blue , in which he played a hotshot Navy rower who was recruited along with three other Americans to help Oxford win its annual boat race with Cambridge.
Lucas' film career began by accident in 1979 when a small Canadian film production shot on the tiny coastal South Carolina island, Sullivan's Island, where Lucas and his family lived. Unbeknownst to the filmmakers, 8-year-old Lucas was hiding in the sand dunes watching filming during the climatic scene where teenage lovers engage in a lovesick fight. It was during this experience that Lucas decided to pursue a career in film which he has now done for nearly 3 decades.
Josh Lucas was convinced he was going to be fired before the movie even started production
It was something I had never experienced before or since. And then that Friday the movie opened and Sunday I started getting calls from my agent telling me how huge the movie opened. I might have been the lowest-paid actor in the entire movie.

Born to young, radical politically active parents in Arkansas in 1971, Lucas spent his early childhood nomadically moving around the southern U.S. The family finally settled in Gig Harbor, Washington, where Lucas attended high school. The school had an award-winning drama/debate program and Lucas won the State Championship in Dramatic Interpretation and competed at the 1989 National Championship. Brief stints in professional theater in Seattle followed before Lucas moved to Los Angeles.

We loved Neil Young and all the music he’s given the world. It wasn’t cutting him down, it was cutting the song he wrote about the South down. Because no matter where you’re from, sweet home Alabama or sweet home Florida or sweet home Arkansas, you can relate.
Personal life
She races to find Jake on the beach as he's preparing for a lightning storm to collect glass that's formed when lightning hits the sand. There, she professes her love for Jake and the two kiss, but this is where the original ending is different. In the original ending of the movie, Melanie leaves her wedding and races to the beach to reconcile with Jake.

There's a flash of lightning and it cuts to a wedding reception. He tells everyone "Melanie Carmichael is dead." Everyone is in shock. Then he says, "Long live Felony Melanie" and Melanie, who was just playing dead, gives him a kiss. They then go and dance as the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama" plays. This is why Reese says, "People need a passport to come down here." You can be a stranger in a strange land if you're not from the South.
Storyline
Van Zant viewed Young’s songs as inflammatory, unfair indictments of an entire region. “We thought Neil was shooting all the ducks in order to kill one or two,” Ronnie said shortly after the song’s release. In the summer of 1973, Ed King, Skynyrd’s guitarist at the time, came up with a riff , Van Zant hashed out a few verses, and a couple of days later, Lynyrd Skynyrd had written its most enduring song. Tennant said the reaction of actress Mary Kay Place, who played Melanie's mother, was so sad he could instantly feel anger from the audience. "I don't know why we thought that was really funny," Tennant said.

Now there are people saying roll tide with it and there is a new generation who hears it and relates. It’s a great thing to have to play a song that people like so much. We just had a dream that we could make it in a band and it came true.
The writing is smart and funny, the directing fits the comedic mood of the story, and the acting is just right. Although it is a quite different film from "Legally Blonde" and "Election", I enjoyed it just as much, and will enjoy it upon repeat viewings. In Sweet Home Alabama, Witherspoon played budding New York City fashion designer Melanie, who becomes engaged to her eligible sweetheart Andrew . But in order to live their happily ever after, she has to go home to Alabama and get her first husband Jake to sign divorce papers.

He starred withMorgan Freeman andRobert Redford inLasse Hallström'sEin ungezähmtes Leben . Additionally, Lucas worked alongside Christopher Walkenin Spurensuche - Umwege zur Wahrheit .
